We are reaching out to inform you that we will be retiring EC2-Classic on August 15, 2022. This message contains important information about the retirement and steps to take before the retirement date.
What is EC2-Classic?
EC2-Classic is a flat network that we launched with EC2 in the summer of 2006. With EC2-Classic, your instances run in a single, flat network that you share with other customers. Inspired by our customers’ evolving needs, we launched Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) in 2009 to allow you to run instances in a virtual private cloud that is logically isolated to your AWS account. Today, while majority of our customers use Amazon VPC, we have a few customers who still use EC2-Classic.
How does this impact you?
Your AWS account currently has EC2-Classic enabled for US-WEST-2 Region, but does not currently have any AWS resources running in EC2-Classic. As part of the EC2-Classic retirement program, we will be turning off EC2-Classic for US-WEST-2 Region from your account on October 30, 2021.
What action do you need to take?
There is no action needed on your part. We will turn off EC2-Classic from your account on October 30, 2021. We request that you do not launch any AWS resources on EC2-Classic going forward and use Amazon VPC for future needs. Once turned off, you will not be able to access EC2-Classic or launch any AWS resources on it.
